Government Vacancies at DPSA Circular Minute Year Programme

The Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) is a department of the South African government that is responsible for the organisation and administration of the civil service. It is responsible for matters including labour relations of government employees. Also, it takes care of the provision of government IT services and integrity in public administration. As a matter of fact, in the 2018/19 financial year alone, it had 444 employees. However, to improve the department’s performance, DPSA is committed to increasing the number of employees. For that reason, DPSA opens government vacancies at DPSA Circular which they have held every year since 2020.

How to Apply for The Government Vacancies at DPSA Circular

First of all, you have to check the availability of jobs that interest you. Of course, every month DPSA issues different vacancies. This depends on the needs of each department or administration. Therefore, you must visit the official DPSA website from time to time to learn which jobs are in demand in South Africa in the Circular Programme for a particular month. Here, you can access the DPSA website at www.dpsa.gov.za. Then, scroll to the “Vacancies in Public Services” section.

There, you will find a series of government vacancies at the DPSA Circular Programme. And, as we mentioned earlier, you have to make sure that the job you are looking for is available that month. Also, you shouldn’t forget to check the current month and year. In that column, there is a list of departments and administrations that are recruiting new candidates.

Furthermore, you can click on the name of the department/administration to view vacancies in that particular section. Alternatively, you can also read promotional booklets for Circular on certain periods in the “Full Document” section.

Additionally, as a potential candidate, DPSA advises you to read the following information before submitting their applications.

  • Forward the applications on form Z83 with full particulars of your training, qualifications, competencies, knowledge, and experience (on a separate sheet if necessary or a CV) to the department in which the vacancy/vacancies exist(s).
  • Indicate the reference number of the vacancy in your applications.
  • If you require additional information regarding an advertised post, please direct your enquiries to the department where the vacancy exists. You shall not approach the Department of Public Service and Administration for such information.
  • Make sure that your applications reach the relevant advertising departments on or before the applicable closing dates. Obviously, late or incomplete documents are not valid.

Besides, DPSA urges relevant departments to comply with the following recommendations.

The contents of this Circular must be brought to the attention of all employees.

  • The department must assist potential candidates from the excess group in applying timeously for vacancies and attending where applicable, interviews.
  • Where vacancies have been identified to promote representativeness, the department should apply the provisions of sections 15 (affirmative action measures) and 20 (employment equity plan) of the Employment Equity Act, 1998. Advertisements for such vacancies should state that it intends to promote representativeness through the filling of the vacancy. Furthermore, the candidature of persons whose transfer/appointment will promote representativeness will receive preference.
  • All departments must assess and select candidates selected in accordance with the relevant measures that apply to employment in the Public Service.

Most importantly, this Circular, except during December, occurs on a weekly basis. And, it contains the advertisements of vacant posts and jobs in Public Service departments. Again, although DPSA is the department that issues the Circular, note that it is not responsible for the content of the advertisements. Thus, you must address enquiries about an advertisement to the relevant advertising department.

For starters, if the vacancy you are looking for is a programme under the Small Business Development department, you should contact the contact person of that department. Hence, you won’t get anything if you direct your questions to an inappropriate department.

Then, where can candidates obtain important documents to apply for government vacancies at the DPSA Circular Programme? Regarding the Z83 application form, you can download it on the official DPSA website. However, you need to be careful before downloading them as there are several different versions that you need to customize to suit your needs.
