About AgriSETA

The Agriculture Sector Education Training Authority or AgriSETA is a South African government agency specifically established to provide training and development programs in agriculture.

The scope of AgriSETA covers the agricultural sector from input services of the farm, activities on the farm, and the first level processing activities from the farm.

In terms of the Skills Development Act, the agency is responsible for the skills development of the agricultural workforce, employed and unemployed.

AgriSETA also facilitates learning through learnerships, skills programs, adult education and training, and tertiary studies or in-service training by allocating grants and bursaries. It also supports apprentices, interns, and mentorships.

To ensure the quality provision of education and training, it is also responsible for accrediting sector-specific training providers and monitoring the standard of training presented.

Products and Services

The following are some of the many programs that AgriSETA sponsors:

  • Quality Assurance: AgriSETA provides opportunities for corporations across the country to be approved as accredited training providers.
  • Bursaries: A bursary is a programme for learners that require tuition (full-time or part-time) at a college, university of technology or university for a certain period. The programme aims to achieve a formal qualification e.g. a certificate, diploma, or degree.
  • Internships: An internship is on-the-job training for students who require practical experience to complete a qualification. The duration of the programme is usually twelve (12) months.
  • Graduate Placement: This programme is available for those who completed their studies in scarce and critical skills areas but still cannot find employment because they have no experience (formally for one year).
  • Adult Education and Training (AET): It is an extensive programme to assist the employees in the agricultural environment to improve their levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • Skills Programmes: These programmes are occupational based learning programmes, which focus on the essential skills required on the job. They may be presented as stand-alone modules or can be packaged so that they may ultimately lead, over time, to a full qualification.
  • Commodity Organisations: It is a programme aimed at supporting commodity organisations in the agricultural sector.
